Associate Director, M&A and Business Growth

About the Team
The M&A and Business Growth team guides the overall strategy of the Market Intelligence division of S&P Global. Responsibilities include setting long-term strategic ambitions, leading acquisitions and divestitures, strategic partnerships, portfolio management, growth initiatives, and competitive intelligence. The team partners closely with Finance and business stakeholders on long-term financial planning. This small, nimble team evaluates significant new investments, defines requirements for future growth, and drives large-scale business transformation initiatives to optimize portfolio strategy and improve business profitability and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Partner with business leaders across the division to shape and execute MI’s strategy.
- Support a diverse set of transactional (M&A, divestiture), portfolio (turnaround, optimization), and strategy-related projects aligned with divisional priorities.
- Inform and influence high-impact decisions by the division’s top leadership, including the President, CFO, and Head of Strategy.
- Drive and support business and corporate development activities, including acquisitions, venture investing, and partnerships to advance divisional growth priorities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Enterprise Corp Dev, Finance, Legal, Technology) to support the end-to-end transaction process, including initial assessments, due diligence, valuation, and synergy case creation.
- Evaluate divisional portfolio strategy by assessing products across financial and strategic metrics, market fit, and industry outlook; support divestiture, turnaround, and sunset projects.
- Deliver strategy-related projects for the Enterprise Solutions business line, including growth strategy, product profitability analysis, business case preparation, and validation of white space opportunities.
- Champion a data-driven, hypothesis-led approach to strategic decision-making across the enterprise.
- Support the creation of materials for strategic meetings, including Board meetings, Strategic Business Reviews, and quarterly earnings preparation.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of experience within investment banking, management consulting, corporate development, or corporate strategy.
- Skilled at communicating strategic narratives clearly and simply in PowerPoint; strong slide design capabilities and exceptional attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with experience developing organic and inorganic business strategies and financial models with modest manager guidance.
- Expertise in analyzing financial results, including historical detailed revenue and expense due diligence to build flexible forward-looking financial models in Excel.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Collaborative team player with effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest and awareness of market trends, with the ability to explain how events impact the business.
- Proactive, with an innate sense of urgency and accountability; able to deliver results with short lead-times.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or equivalent); major in Business, Finance, or related field preferred.
Schedule
This role requires spending 2-3 days a week working from an S&P Global office location.
Pay
Anticipated base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000. Final base salary will be based on geographic location, experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. The role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan.
