About the role
The Associate Director, Global Scientific Communications, Medical Affairs is a high-impact opportunity to contribute to meaningful medical advancements while working within a collaborative and mission-driven team. This role combines scientific expertise, strategic thinking, content development, and cross-functional collaboration to shape global scientific communication strategies.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of scientific communication initiatives that support medical strategies, pipeline programs, and engagement with healthcare professionals.
- Create high-quality scientific materials including presentations, slide decks, scientific narratives, FAQs, congress materials, and publication-related content.
- Translate complex clinical and scientific data into accurate, engaging, and compliant communications for internal and external audiences.
- Support publication planning and execution, including abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and scientific presentations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, external authors, agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of scientific messaging.
- Drive innovative approaches to scientific communication through digital formats and enhanced content delivery methods.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, and other medical functions to support strategic objectives.
- Manage multiple content development projects, timelines, workflows, budgets, and external vendor relationships.
- Oversee review and approval processes through content management platforms while ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal procedures.
- Maintain consistency, quality, and scientific accuracy across all medical affairs deliverables.
Requirements
- Strong scientific expertise, editorial excellence, and the ability to manage complex projects across global teams.
- Advanced degree in life sciences such as PhD, PharmD, MD, MS, or equivalent scientific discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in medical communications, scientific writing, or content development within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare organizations.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex scientific information and tailor communication for different audiences.
- Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while balancing competing priorities.
- Strong project management skills with experience overseeing agencies, vendors, and external collaborators.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Experience with content management and review platforms such as Veeva Vault or similar systems.
- Familiarity with scientific communication compliance standards including ICMJE, GPP, FDA, and EMA guidelines.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Scientific background or experience in oncology, hematology, autoimmune diseases, or related therapeutic areas is preferred.
