About the role

We are searching for an Associate Director, Economic Modeling to enhance our economic modeling capability within Scientific Evidence & Policy Research (SEPR) at Scientific Affairs. This role will design and deliver rigorous economic modeling analytics, champion best-in-class modeling methodology, and serve as the modeling subject matter expert. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Scientific Affairs, Medical Affairs, New Products & Business Development (NPBD), Strategic Customer Group, and Global Health Economic Modeling to perform scientifically rigorous modeling analytics.

This position is located in Titusville, NJ.

Responsibilities

  • Develop best-in-class innovative modeling methodology (parametric and/or non-parametric economic modeling techniques) to ensure optimal access for the J&J Innovative Medicine US portfolio.
  • Align on the J&J Innovative Medicine US external strategy to evolve payer methodology in assessing the value of the portfolio.
  • Serve as the modeling subject matter expert to strengthen economic model development capabilities in North America.
  • Engage early with product development by supporting clinical trial designs in the US market, guiding go/no-go decisions for early pipeline products, identifying the right patient population and comparators, and collaborating with Global Health Economics to create or adapt US-specific models.
  • Conduct horizon scanning of key developments in economic modeling methodology and international/national standards, embedding insights into J&J Innovative Medicine US.
  • Assess urgent modeling requests (e.g., from ICER) and health policy evaluations in collaboration with business partners.
  • Lead cost-effectiveness models, budget impact models, and systematic literature reviews with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide modeling input to Value Story development and updates.
  • Lead early-stage and post-launch economic models to inform business strategies.
  • Interpret clinical study results and plan additional statistical analyses for core models and adaptations, including indirect treatment comparisons.
  • Present, gather feedback, and re-analyze model results with a focus on North American market needs.
  • Assist in the design and execution of epidemiological funnel development.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership on modeling internally and externally to shape business standards.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree is required in health economics or a related discipline; a PhD is preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience (or 4 years with a doctorate degree) is required for the Associate Director level.
  • Experience developing health economic models is required.
  • Experience working with consumers of health economic information is required.
  • Statistical skills, particularly in advanced survival analyses, are required.
  • Self-motivation, self-initiation, and the ability to meet deadlines are required.
  • Scientific leadership and project management experience are required.
  • Experience using Visual Basic and software such as TreeAge Pro, R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, or WinBUGS for model development and data analysis is strongly preferred.
  • Academic training and industry or payer experience in statistics, health economics, and outcomes research is preferred.
  • Knowledge of economics, epidemiology, psychometrics, and medical writing is preferred.
  • Previous experience in multiple disease areas is preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Strong project management skills are required.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Spotfire is preferred.
  • Experience with novel techniques such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and predictive modeling is preferred.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.

Pay

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $137,000.00 - $235,750.00.
