About the role

Join UCLA Health Sciences Development’s (HSD) Neurology and Neurosurgery team as an Associate Director of Development. This position offers the opportunity to grow your career as a junior major gifts officer while raising funds for a leading health care system. UCLA Health is a globally recognized, comprehensive health care system at the forefront of biomedical research, with a 70-year history of innovation in education, research, and patient care. You will collaborate with the Director and Executive Director of Development to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and manage a portfolio of lower-level major gift prospects, develop strategic approaches, and create compelling communications for donors.

Responsibilities

  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, grow, and manage a portfolio of lower-level major gift prospects.
  • Collaborate with the Director and Executive Director of Development, Neurology and Neurosurgery to organize and meet with donors.
  • Develop compelling written communications for constituencies, including reports, proposals, and materials for fundraising events and initiatives.
  • Create and implement strategic approaches to advance philanthropic priorities.
  • Recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate, and evaluate staff and volunteers supporting development goals.
  • Build and sustain lasting relationships with internal and external constituents, including donors, alumni, and administrators.
  • Manage data to retrieve information and isolate specific market segments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of donor files and other sensitive information.
  • Work evenings and/or weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated annual giving or fundraising experience and/or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing, or business development. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising and major giving in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity, including annual giving techniques. (Required)
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement broad-ranging and specific individual identification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies. (Required)
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, proposals, and other cultivation and solicitation materials. (Required)
  • Excellent oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy, and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the university and fundraising goals. (Required)
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and build lasting relationships. (Required)
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage workflow to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. (Required)
  • Knowledge of data management sufficient to retrieve data and isolate specific market segments. (Required)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators, and colleagues. (Required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with database, spreadsheet, scheduling, and email applications; willingness to learn new programs efficiently. (Required)
  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM or equivalent development database and report generation. (Preferred)

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors such as budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, and certifications. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.

Schedule

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (with occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed).
