Associate Director - Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor

About the role

Turner & Townsend are looking for an experienced Associate Director Cost Manager and/or Quantity Surveyor to lead cost management services for a key client or several clients. This individual will ensure successful management of both internal and external stakeholders and deliver cost management services across a diverse portfolio of complex construction projects, including data centers, commercial developments, industrial facilities, public sector programs, and other large-scale capital projects.

In this role, you will provide leadership and direction, embedding and promoting the purpose, values, and vision of Turner & Townsend.

Responsibilities

• Lead a cost management team, ensuring delivery on all accountabilities.
• Interface with clients, stakeholders, and other consultants at all project stages.
• Maintain excellent communication with clients and consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform quantity surveying, cost controls, and change management activities.
• Coordinate Turner & Townsend’s role within the overall construction process, communicating effectively with contractors, owner’s representatives, and external stakeholders.
• Manage the strategic and operational delivery of Cost Management and Project Controls Services across various construction sectors and capital programs.
• Serve as the first point of contact for reporting on the overall commercial status of a project.
• Drive Turner & Townsend best practices at all project stages.
• Identify opportunities to improve cost management procedures, processes, templates, and products.
• Conduct staff performance reviews and set a clear strategy and ambition for the team.
• Identify, coach, and mentor talent to realize their potential.
• Display excellence in leadership and service delivery on commissions.
• Utilize internal software to track margin levels, monthly fee/resource forecasts, and financial reports.
• Develop priority plans, including risk mitigation, performance measurements via KPIs, and management controls.
• Implement and maintain internal Business Management Systems and company delivery methodologies.
• Undertake internal BMS audits and coordinate external audits.
• Develop a detailed understanding of the market, acting as a brand ambassador and creating a pipeline of opportunities.
• Advise on contracting and procurement strategies for clients across various project types and industries.
• Build strong relationships with clients and cross-functional team members.
• Participate in meetings with leadership and prepare and deliver presentations.
• Provide weekly updates on project status, initiatives, and staffing, proposing solutions and obtaining approvals.
• Identify and act on cross-selling or business generation opportunities.
• Participate in generating proposals and RFP responses for new clients/projects.
• Ensure key information and learning from each commission is inputted into internal databases.
• Attend relevant networking events and drive a one-business culture.
• Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
• Graduate degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Construction Management, or Engineering is preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in a cost management role within the construction industry.
• Experience leading cost management services on large-scale, complex construction projects.
• Experience supporting data centers, commercial real estate, industrial, public sector, or other complex capital construction projects is preferred.
• Construction consultancy experience is strongly preferred.
• Subject-matter expertise in Quantity Surveying, with RICS certification or equivalent accreditation.
• Excellent presentation, verbal, written, organizational, and communication skills.
