Responsibilities
- Edit and produce stories from The Post’s award-winning staff of writers and columnists.
- Handle breaking news and be able to write and/or produce stories to quickly publish in order to be competitive with rival news organizations.
- Pitch and write stories by tracking social media sites and other news organizations closely.
- Send multi-platform alerts to amplify our coverage.
- Live-blogging coverage of the biggest events in sports.
- Find various ways to promote our staff’s in-depth reporting and strong takes.
- Program the sports homepage, balancing the most important, engaging, and attention-grabbing stories of the moment.
- An ability to work on your own and produce vibrant stories quickly and accurately.
- Use analytics to guide decisions while keeping the needs of our core audience front and center.
Requirements
- At least 1-2 years of experience as a sports website producer or editor in a fast-paced online newsroom.
- Strong editorial judgment and communication skills, with a proven ability to prioritize and package stories that drive digital engagement.
- Hands-on experience with WordPress or a similar CMS.
- Knowledge of all sports, especially New York teams, and a strong interest in the city’s sports culture.
- Demonstrated familiarity with SEO best practices and how they inform digital publishing strategy.
- Experience using analytics tools to monitor performance in real time and adjust story framing, placement, and packaging accordingly.
- Familiarity with the New York Post’s writing style and a willingness to adapt to our fast-paced, dynamic newsroom.
- Able to leverage visuals, multimedia, and social media to enhance stories and maximize reach.
- Comfort working in a highly collaborative environment with editors, reporters, and digital producers, and flexibility to work nights and weekends.
