Associate DevOps Engineer
VTG is seeking an Associate DevOps Engineer to support our Navy customer. This role will be involved in the installation, integration, and testing of prototype Navy tactical software and supporting Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery of mature software.
About the role
The DevOps Engineer will work with a small team based in Manassas, VA, and collaborate with a larger community of organizations and government representatives nationwide. The individual will develop and implement cybersecurity and data management solutions for future tactical systems with limited supervision. This role requires an imaginative thinker and problem solver with a demonstrated interest in all aspects of DevOps infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Prototype and develop platform-as-a-service (PaaS) features for data management and cybersecurity for the next-generation tactical system deployed by the U.S. Navy.
- Work with small teams on prototyping efforts spanning server, VM, and container management, cybersecurity, data management, and networks.
- Maintain unclassified and classified on-premise cloud infrastructure.
- Develop CI/CD pipelines to automate the delivery, installation, integration, and testing of Navy tactical software.
- Conceive, develop, and evaluate novel engineering solutions for maritime environment requirements.
- Prototype data architecture and/or cybersecurity tools and solutions.
- Evaluate commercial and open-source products for use in CI/CD pipelines and PaaS.
- Integrate third-party applications and/or containerize them.
- Participate in cross-domain working groups to coordinate prototyping efforts and brief results to senior engineers.
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, PaaS, and PaaS services.
- Assist in maintaining server bays in both unclassified and Secret lab environments.
- Provide and update technical documentation for all work performed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology.
- Proficient using Linux (RHEL 7, 8, or 9).
- Proficient with Virtual Machines and related tools such as Proxmox.
- Proficient with physical server and switch management.
- Knowledgeable with modern PaaS environment tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Podman, KVM, and Helm.
- Experience with shell scripting languages.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness.
- U.S. Citizen with current SECRET clearance or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
- Successful completion of background check.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in the SWFTS environment or with other U.S. Navy tactical/weapon systems is desirable.
- Additional cybersecurity certifications or experience.
- Experience with automated testing.
- Experience developing software with C++ or Java.
- Extensive experience as a Linux administrator.
- Experience with secure computing technologies such as SELinux, PKI, zero-trust networks, etc.
- Networking experience.
Pay
VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $70,000–$78,000, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations, and may include contractual requirements that could adjust the offer outside this range.
