About the Role

Correlates clinical experiences with the theory component of the course as outlined in the syllabi and catalog. Assigned teaching responsibilities may include clinical teaching on various WSU campuses, outreach campus sites, co-operative campus sites, and/or online formatted courses.

Responsibilities

• Plans, prepares, and organizes a variety of relevant teaching and learning strategies and instructional materials for laboratory, simulation, and clinical student experiences, including post-conferences and debriefing.
• Creates an environment conducive to learning.
• Plans and supervises clinical experiences for students, including creating and posting the clinical schedule in the learning management system.
• Maintains a liaison role between the assigned clinical agency(ies) and the program clinical coordinator.
• Grades clinically-based written assignments as outlined in course syllabi.
• Evaluates student performance in clinical course requirements in a systematic and objective manner, including midterm and final evaluations.
• Maintains student records related to clinical learning activities.
• Maintains clinical competency in teaching assignment and current knowledge regarding agency policies.
• Maintains scheduled office hours and/or availability to students.
• Evaluates lab, simulation, and/or clinical teaching resources and materials for currency and relevancy; suggests revisions to the course chair.
• Appraises available clinical teaching resources and recommends acquisitions of materials.
• Prepares student clinical assignments to meet course goals/outcomes.
• Encourages students to assume responsibility for their own development and assists with problem-solving techniques.
• Serves as an exemplary role model for students and assists them in acquiring professional attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors.
• Plans and prepares student application of technology-based clinical systems and software.
• Informs assigned Program Director/Program Clinical Coordinator and gains approval prior to scheduling extracurricular activities that impact contracted faculty activities.
• Is available to assigned students during scheduled clinical experiences.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in a master’s or doctorate program.
• Active unrestricted Utah Registered Nurse License (or compact state license).
• Clinical nursing expertise.
• Must comply with clinical requirements (e.g., vaccinations, TB testing, CPR).

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctorate degree.
• Previous teaching experience.
