Attention: The Dean of Students Office at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an Associate Dean of Students to provide exemplary leadership and oversight for student issues related to student assistance and intervention.
About the Role
The Associate Dean of Students is a full-time, annual appointment reporting to the Dean of Students. This role works closely with Well-being units (University Health and Counseling Services, Center for Students with Disabilities), Residence Life, University Police, Academic Affairs, and community partners to coordinate care for impacted students. The Associate Dean serves as the chair of the CARE team and acts as a Title IX Deputy for issues of sexual misconduct and harassment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact in the Dean of Students Office for non-conduct related issues (ombuds, medical withdrawals, etc.).
- Provide leadership for development, implementation, and administration of policies, procedures, and protocols impacting student success under the purview of the Dean of Students Office.
- Supervise professional staff and graduate student(s) in the Dean of Students office.
- Coordinate the Medical Withdrawal process.
- Ensure accurate records management and follow-up for student complaints.
- Serve in an ombudsman and advocacy role for students navigating campus policies or difficult situations.
- Communicate and coordinate with faculty and staff regarding students of concern; document contacts in appropriate data management systems.
- Serve as chairperson of the cross-functional CARE Team and ensure compliance with all team protocols.
- Oversee case management to engage students of concern, reinforce behavioral expectations, and support follow-through with interventions.
- Provide and promote training and ongoing education for CARE team members.
- Maintain accurate CARE records and provide statistics/reports as needed.
- Train the UW-Whitewater community on the role and function of the CARE team.
- Work collaboratively with Student Affairs units, academic colleges, departments, and units to bridge university agendas and priorities.
- Serve on university and professional committees to advance student needs and staff with disabilities’ initiatives.
- Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, performance management, and discipline of at least 2.0 FTE employees.
- Assist in advising institutional and divisional leadership on policy and procedures.
- Serve as unit liaison to internal and external stakeholders in the absence of the Dean.
- Assist in evaluating unit program and service effectiveness; provide recommendations for improvement.
- Serve as subject matter expert on student issues and resolutions.
- Assist in developing Student Services strategic planning initiatives and objectives.
- Assist in developing operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations and division objectives.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or a related field.
- Seven years of relevant higher education experience.
- Experience managing student crisis situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in behavior intervention and threat assessment processes and protocols.
- Supervision experience of professional staff members.
- Demonstrated competence in providing quality training programs related to student behavior, classroom management, and crisis response.
- Policy development and implementation experience.
- Well-developed communication and public relations skills, including engagement with faculty, students, families, and representatives.
- Demonstrated intercultural competence and impact on the student experience.
- Knowledge and utilization of software programs managing student contact and intervention processes.
Skills
- Ability to interact respectfully with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to actively participate in applicable safety rules and regulations, including training and drills.

Pay
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $100,917.
