About the role

The Associate Dean for Research (ADR), who also serves as the Director of the Buffalo Center for Social Research (BCSR), oversees the development of the school’s research agenda and protocols consistent with UB’s guidelines, and provides leadership in articulating and carrying out the research mission of the School of Social Work.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of the school’s research strategic plan developed in collaboration with the school’s various constituencies
  • Serves as SSW research liaison with university administration
  • Develops the SSW’s research infrastructure
  • Develops and promotes policies and procedures that support research
  • Serves as a member of the SSW Administrative Team
  • Chairs the Research Advisory Committee (RAC)
  • Implements faculty professional development opportunities
  • Develops mechanisms to monitor funded research benchmarks and productivity of peer institutions
  • Nets on research matters with other schools to develop interdisciplinary research collaboratives
  • Identifies and advocates for BCSR research infrastructure needs
  • Develops and implements BCSR strategic plan in conjunction with RAC
  • Chairs the Grants Team and Project Design Team
  • Develops and manages the BCSR budget
  • Reports on research activities and funded research portfolio as required
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates BCSR staff
  • Organizes and implements the BCSR Distinguished Scholars Series
  • Manage endowment accounts according to donor’s directive
  • Administers the Fed-AWARD program
  • Cultivates external funding resources
  • Develops both faculty and student research and award opportunities

Requirements

  • PhD in social work or a related field
  • Record of scholarship that meets the requirements for the rank of associate or full professor with tenure
  • Proven track record of procuring external funding from various sources including foundation, state, and federal grants
  • Record of having mentored faculty and students in starting research projects and procuring funding
