About the Role

The Associate Dean for Dental Education and Academic Affairs (ADEA) leads the accreditation effort and provides overall leadership, vision, strategy, and oversight of the curriculum in the Bitonte College of Dentistry (BCOD). This position oversees all personnel, policies, and activities related to accreditation and the delivery of a streamlined, coordinated curriculum aligned with the NEOMED mission, leading to the award of the D.D.S. degree. The ADEA ensures compliance with accreditation standards across all aspects of the College.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum:
    • Stimulate collaborative endeavors to improve academic programs for students, promote educational innovations, and support research.
    • Provide curricular oversight to align student and faculty needs with college by-laws and CODA standards.
    • Ensure learning spaces and technology meet curriculum and accreditation requirements.
    • Identify and engage clinical and basic science faculty for instruction.
    • Oversee curriculum delivery to ensure consistency and coordination.
    • Foster interprofessional education throughout the curriculum.
    • Lead ongoing evaluation of curricula, teaching, and faculty, including preparation of documentation and reports.
    • May serve in a teaching capacity.
  • Accreditation:
    • Develop and implement a plan for accreditation efforts.
    • Create policies and procedures to support accreditation.
    • Serve as the main accreditation lead for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), ensuring timely and complete self-study submissions for CODA visits.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for CODA, communicating standards and expectations to stakeholders while staying current on changes.
    • Maintain CODA records and ensure the University meets all reporting deadlines and requirements.
    • Actively participate in CODA conference calls and updates.
  • Committees:
    • Organize the structure of BCOD committees and advise the Dean on necessary committees to comply with CODA standards and address BCOD needs.
    • Centralize minutes of committees and faculty meetings.
    • Participate in College or University committees as appropriate, providing leadership to curriculum management and oversight committees.
    • Serve as a liaison and advocate for BCOD and NEOMED.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Monitor and manage the Academic Affairs department budget and provide input to other budgetary areas in BCOD.
    • Participate in strategic planning for the College of Dentistry and make recommendations aligned with the college’s mission, vision, values, and CODA standards.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • D.D.S./D.M.D. degree (or equivalent) or Ph.D.
  • Eligibility for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at NEOMED.
  • Required decanal or high-level administrative experience in dental education at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in dental education administration, curricular development, and implementation.
  • Administrative experience in curriculum development with in-depth knowledge of dental program accreditation, particularly CODA requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and champion education within academic institutions and among external constituencies.
  • Strong track record with national recognition as an educational scholar and/or clinician-educator.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Physical ability to utilize a phone, computer, and other office equipment.
