Associate Data Scientist - Estimating

Summary

Mortenson is seeking an Associate Data Scientist to support the Estimating organization by automating workflows, developing predictive models, and creating custom AI/ML solutions.

Responsibilities

• Understand business challenges and develop data-driven solutions
• Translate business requirements into actionable analytics and AI solutions
• Collate, clean, and analyze data from various sources
• Conduct statistical analyses and predictive modeling
• Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in data science, AI, and construction analytics
• Test and evaluate AI & ML solutions
• Review program data to provide corrective actions
• Work collaboratively with diverse teams and at various levels

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, data analytics, statistics, computer science, or a related field
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a data science or AI function, preferably an internship in applied AI or data science
• Proficiency with predictive modeling, statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization
• Experience with LLMs, multimodal models, or generative AI/ML (e.g., Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex)
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, or similar coding languages and platforms including IDEs like Jupyter Notebook, Spyder, Visual Studio Code
• Experience working with ML frameworks, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and related data tools
• Prior work or experience in construction, architecture, engineering, or real estate development (preferred)
• Shown experience in following complex instructions
• Ability to think analytically with great attention to detail
• Shown understanding of business operations
• Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
• Shown willingness to advance business ideas that are sometimes unstructured and without clearly defined outcomes

Pay

The base pay range for this role is Min $69,900 – Max $104,900. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.

Schedule

This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
