Associate Counsel - Baltimore, MD
About the Role
GEICO is looking to hire an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Maryland courts and other first-party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in Baltimore, MD and offers a remote work arrangement within commutable distance to the office.
Responsibilities
- Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial, examinations under oath, and defending by trial or dispositive hearing all assigned matters
Requirements
- 2-6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury
- Juris Doctor degree (REQUIRED)
- Admission to the Maryland Bar (REQUIRED)
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Maryland and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) where applicable
- Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
- Strong written communication skills for documenting files clearly and professionally
- Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and demonstrate strong organization, priority-setting, and multitasking skills
- Capacity to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
Preferred Qualifications
- Civil litigation experience
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience
- Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence/email

Pay
Annual salary range: $118,900.00 - $186,550.00. The final salary offered will be based on factors including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education, training, work location, as well as market and business considerations.
