About the role

As an Associate Civil Engineer, you will lead the design and development of resilient and sustainable civil engineering solutions. Your role will involve providing technical input and innovative solutions for challenging engineering problems, managing complex and multi-disciplinary projects, leading client interactions, and contributing to maintaining high standards of work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical input and innovative solutions for challenging engineering problems, particularly in sustainable and resilient design.
  • Manage complex and multi-disciplinary projects from conception to completion, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budgets and timelines.
  • Lead client interactions, helping to understand their needs and translate them into effective engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of work across projects.
  • Lead collaboration efforts with experts from various disciplines, including geotechnical engineering, transportation planning, environmental engineering, economics, sustainability, mobility, and energy to develop holistic solutions.
  • Contribute to the adoption of new technologies and methodologies in civil engineering.
  • Sustain and integrate sustainable and green infrastructure practices into projects.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their technical and professional development while continuing to advance your own expertise.
  • Provide expert consultation to clients, government agencies, and partner organizations on complex infrastructure challenges, sustainable design strategies, and resilience planning.
  • Represent Buro Happold in high-level discussions and decision-making processes that shape the future of urban environments.
  • Contribute to the development of long-term strategies for the Civil Infrastructure Team, identifying emerging trends and opportunities for innovation.

Requirements

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, 8+ years of progressively challenging civil engineering projects experience, a PE license, proficiency in Civil3D, GIS, and AutoCAD, and familiarity with emerging technologies in civil engineering. Core knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, utility design, grading, earthwork, sustainable design practices, and green infrastructure is also essential.

Qualifications

Qualifications include strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to present technical information clearly, and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to a collaborative environment. Interest in participating in professional organizations and contributing to the field of sustainable infrastructure is also beneficial.

Skills

  • Technical proficiency in Civil3D, GIS, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies in civil engineering.
  • Core knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, utility design, grading, earthwork, sustainable design practices, and green infrastructure.
  • Experience in supporting project delivery, including assisting with crafting scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in participating in professional organizations and contributing to the field of sustainable infrastructure.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $125,000 – $155,000, determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience.
