About the Role

The Associate Chemist prepares and analyzes environmental samples using standard analytical techniques according to approved scientific methodology in compliance with Eurofins Environment Testing Quality Assurance programs and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This position can be physically demanding, requiring standing for long periods, working with organic solvents, laboratory glassware, and specialized equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine lab tasks that provide experience and familiarization with methods, practices, and programs, including:
    • Preparation of samples using standard techniques
    • Performing chemical analysis using standard techniques
    • Evaluation and quantification of data
    • Recording and reporting data and any unusual test occurrences to the supervisor
    • Performing routine instrument maintenance
    • Competency in complex instrumentation and instrument-specific software (training is provided)
  • Responsible for keeping personal training documentation (training records, IDOC/DOC) current and accurate
  • Responsible for timely completion of assigned/scheduled QC samples (MDL, LOD/LOQ, PT)
  • Documents NCMs for projects with quality issues as required
  • Understands and utilizes backlog reports to manage personal workload
  • Works under close supervision using routine and standard methods
  • Ensures regular attendance and punctuality
  • Responsible for general housekeeping in work area
  • Proficient with IDOCs for assigned methods carried out in the department
  • Performs job functions in compliance with Eurofins Environment health and safety and quality assurance standards
  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision
  • Inventories and stocks laboratory supplies
  • Washes and inventories glassware
  • Purges analyzed samples
  • Assists in other areas of the laboratory when needed
  • Follows and learns appropriate protocols in one or more of the following disciplines, with a focus on GC/MS and Semi-volatile organic compounds:
    • Organic preparation
    • Metals preparation and analysis
    • PFAS sample preparation
    • HRMS sample preparation
    • Gas Chromatography
    • Mass Spectrometry
    • Radio Chemistry
    • Wet Chemistry
    • High Resolution preparation and analysis
    • Low Resolution preparation and analysis

Schedule

Position is 1st shift, with options for Monday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Training will be Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM for an estimated 3-4 months.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Chemistry or related field, Associate Degree, or 2 years of related laboratory experience in lieu of degree.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, including the ability to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or sponsorship.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Previous experience with wet chemistry.
  • Previous experience in a lab or production setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Able to interpret written materials and communicate findings effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and propose practical solutions.
  • Applies critical thinking to evaluate options and make decisions.
  • Effective collaboration skills to contribute to team goals and support department productivity goals.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable using mathematical formulas and tools to perform calculations and analyze data.
  • Consistently delivers high-quality work within established timelines and specifications.
  • Able to work independently, following written or verbal instructions with minimal oversight.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to coordinate tasks and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Pay

Pay rate: $18-$19/hour + 10% shift differential.
