Associate Buyer (Decor)
About the Role
The Associate Buyer (Decor) is responsible for creating and executing merchandise strategies in partnership with the Buyer/Sr. Buyer to deliver Product Proud assortments that meet or exceed sales, margin, and turn requirements. This includes assortment selection and management, product development, and go-to-market efforts such as marketing and in-store visual merchandising. The role also involves collaborating with key functional peers, including Planners, Sourcing Managers, and the Visual Team, to maximize business opportunities pre-season, during season, and post-season.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute merchandise strategies in partnership with the Buyer/Sr. Buyer, including assortment management and customer-facing visual and storytelling ideas.
- Support the Buyer/Sr. Buyer in Product Development vision in conjunction with a Sourcing Manager who administers processes and timelines.
- Travel and spend time in the market for trend identification, category expertise, and identifying white-space opportunities.
- Work with National Brand product partners to understand the market and category, curating assortments leveraging their expertise.
- Maintain relationships with key private-label product partners to deliver Product Proud assortments, collaboratively driving business results and representing the brand professionally.
- Provide insights and actively participate in the OTB (Open-to-Buy) process to drive category P&L in collaboration with the Sr. Buyer/Buyer and Sr. Planner/Planner.
- Analyze purchasing trends, sales data, and supplier performance; provide recommendations for pre-season, during-season, and post-season actions.
- Offer a point of view on assortment changes based on market assessment, prediction of purchasing needs, and productivity assessment of sales data.
- Partner with Marketing, Digital, and Packaging teams to achieve strategic business objectives and Go-to-Market vision.
- Work closely with Planning, Sourcing, and Visual teams to align Merchandising with company goals.
- Support the Buyer/Sr. Buyer with strategic initiatives and applicable milestone meetings.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in retail buying/merchandising, planning, or related experience.
- Merchandising or Product Development experience in Decor is a plus but not required.
- Ability to identify emerging trends and regularly shop competition and market.
- Strong leadership and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to translate information clearly and concisely.
- Strong organizational skills and good time management.
- Willingness to travel for market and store trips.
- Innate curiosity and passion for product and customer satisfaction.
