Associate, Broadcast Cabling

About the role

PMY is seeking an Associate to own and advance the broadcast cabling concept within our Broadcast Systems practice, while consulting across the full range of broadcast systems scopes, including sports video production and LED/scoreboard design, for educational, sports, and entertainment facilities, including stadiums, arenas, and other large-format venues. This is a self-directed, SME-focused role with responsibility for a defined sub-section of the broadcast area of expertise: broadcast cabling.

The Associate tracks and develops PMY's cabling concepts, standards, and best practices, and serves as the go-to resource on cabling questions across the broader broadcast practice. This role has no formal people management responsibilities but provides guidance, feedback, and day-to-day support to junior roles in a mentorship capacity, as well as training and development for PMY staff designing Broadcast Cabling systems.

You will work alongside venue owners and operators, architects, engineers, contractors, integrators, and manufacturers, and alongside PMY's video production and LED/scoreboard specialists, to develop cabling infrastructure and broader broadcast solutions tailored to each venue's operational and event-day requirements. As an independent consultant, PMY objectively evaluates available technologies and recommends solutions based on performance, league and venue requirements, reliability, maintainability, budget, and project needs.

Responsibilities

• Broadcast Cabling Concept Ownership
  • Own PMY's broadcast cabling concept, including the standards, methodology, and design approach used for broadcast cable plant on every project.
  • Track and respond to changes within cabling technology, codes, and manufacturer offerings, and update standards and templates accordingly.
  • Build and maintain the reference specs and templates the rest of the broadcast team draws on for cabling infrastructure and signal distribution.
  • Serve as the go-to resource for broadcast cabling questions across the firm, acting as the second chair on broadcast cabling matters.
  • Set PMY's approach for confirming camera angles and camera platforms meet league requirements, including AC power coordination for TV trucks, broadcast booths, camera platforms, league racks, and common carriers.
  • Lead cabling design directly on assigned projects, supporting national TV, in-house video, radio, and replay systems: schedules, routing, infrastructure requirements.
  • Coach junior staff through their cabling work day-to-day in a mentorship capacity.
• General Broadcast Systems Consulting
  • Own the technical direction of broadcast cabling, video production, and LED/scoreboard scopes on assigned projects, from early programming through construction administration.
  • Meet directly with clients, operators, architects, and stakeholders to define system requirements, performance targets, and operational priorities.
  • Confirm camera angles and camera platforms meet league requirements, and coordinate AC power for TV trucks, broadcast booths, camera platforms, league racks, and common carriers.
  • Develop system architectures covering cabling infrastructure, camera systems, production control rooms, national TV, in-house video, radio, and replay systems, video networking, and LED/scoreboard sizing and control.
  • Evaluate camera, LED, and cabling products across manufacturers and recommend the right fit for each project's requirements and budget.
  • Produce and check construction drawings, specifications, schedules, floor plans, and signal-flow diagrams, and coordinate them with architecture, structure, electrical, and other teams.
  • Lead design reviews and coordination workshops; review contractor submittals, RFIs, and substitution requests.
  • Conduct site visits during construction to resolve installation and coordination issues.
  • Run testing, verification, and commissioning for broadcast, video, and LED/scoreboard systems.
  • Direct junior staff on their piece of a project and take ownership of limited-scope engagements, including the client relationship.
  • Contribute to proposals, fee estimates, and business development for broadcast work.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in broadcast cabling, sports video production, LED/scoreboard systems, or a closely related field.
• Experience working in stadiums, arenas, educational facilities, or other large-format sports and entertainment venues.
• Solid understanding of video signal distribution, including SDI, IP video, and fiber, as well as production control room layouts and cable plant design.
• Working knowledge of LED display fundamentals, including pixel pitch, processing, and control.
• Familiarity with CSI documentation standards and standard architectural project phases.
• Understanding of project sequencing, including design, bidding, contractor coordination, construction administration, and commissioning.
• Proficiency with Revit, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with current video and broadcast networking protocols, including SMPTE 2110, NDI, and IP video.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and client-management skills.
• Ability to independently manage project-related tasks, coordinate with project stakeholders, and travel as project needs require.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in broadcast engineering, media technology, electrical engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Procore preferred.
• Experience with BIM-based design coordination workflows preferred.
• Experience working on professional or major collegiate sports facilities preferred.
• Experience developing or maintaining firm-wide technical standards or design guidelines for broadcast cabling preferred.
• Experience with broadcast systems supporting sports presentation, live event production, and multipurpose venue configurations preferred.
• Experience coordinating broadcast cabling with scoreboards, video displays, sound systems, and event presentation technologies preferred.
