About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Associate Attorney (Corporate Counsel) for our San Antonio, Texas corporate headquarters. You will provide legal counsel to assigned clients within USAA, analyze legal issues of routine and moderately complex nature, and communicate legal advice. You will engage with business clients to understand USAA’s strategic and operational objectives and collaborate with internal stakeholders. This position is based in San Antonio, TX, with a flexible work environment requiring in-office presence 4 days per week. Relocation assistance is not available.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal counsel to support business objectives and mitigate regulatory, compliance, and litigation risk to USAA.
• Leads routine to moderately complex legal assignments and delivers appropriate solutions.
• Effectively communicates with internal stakeholders in both verbal and written forms.
• Monitors and analyzes changes in laws, regulations, and industry and advises leadership as appropriate.
• Supports senior attorneys with legal questions or issues by leveraging general knowledge and conducting research.
• Ensures escalation of matters presenting more significant risk to senior attorneys.
• If awaiting bar licensure, completes assignments under the supervision of a licensed attorney, with all legal advice provided by a licensed attorney.
• Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school.
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in one state or a territory of the USA, or must pass the State Bar exam and receive a license within 10 months of hire date.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

• Two to three years of legal practice experience drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements within a financial services company or at a law firm supporting a financial services company.
• Understanding of privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GDPR) and data-sharing regulations in a financial services environment.
• Knowledge of legal considerations related to digital product design and user experience.
• Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for information security within financial services.
• Understanding of the evolving legal landscape surrounding Artificial Intelligence.
• US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $93,770 - $179,240. USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
