Associate Attorney

About the role

A well-established South Carolina law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing litigation team. This opportunity offers exposure to complex business disputes, meaningful courtroom experience, and the chance to work closely with experienced attorneys on sophisticated litigation matters. The ideal candidate has strong legal research and writing skills, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to manage cases through all stages of litigation.

Responsibilities

• Handle commercial litigation matters from inception through trial
• Research complex legal issues and draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and appellate briefs
• Prepare for and conduct depositions, witness interviews, hearings, and trials
• Argue motions and participate in trials, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations
• Develop case strategies in collaboration with partners and senior attorneys
• Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders
• Manage multiple cases, deadlines, and litigation priorities
• Assist with alternative dispute resolution and other dispute-resolution proceedings

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active South Carolina Bar license in good standing
• 2+ years of commercial litigation experience
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
• Experience with Westlaw, LexisNexis, or similar legal research tools
• Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in state and federal courts
• Exposure to contract disputes, business torts, shareholder disputes, or construction litigation
• Familiarity with electronic discovery and litigation case management systems
• Judicial clerkship experience
