About the Role
Our client, a leading international law firm, is seeking an Insurance Coverage Associate with 3-5 years of experience to join its growing insurance coverage practice in California. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney interested in sophisticated coverage analysis and litigation involving a broad range of liability insurance products. The successful candidate will work closely with domestic and international insurers on complex coverage matters while enjoying significant client contact, hands-on responsibility, and strong opportunities for professional development.
Responsibilities
- Advise domestic and international insurers regarding coverage issues arising under a variety of liability policies, including:
- Directors & Officers (D&O)
- Employment Practices Liability (EPL)
- Professional Liability
- Commercial General Liability (CGL)
- Commercial Auto Liability
- Analyze policy language and evaluate coverage obligations and defenses
- Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, denial letters, and other coverage-related correspondence
- Conduct legal research and prepare detailed memoranda on insurance coverage issues
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and discovery responses
- Review and analyze documents and materials produced during litigation and investigations
- Participate in depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and other proceedings
- Develop litigation and claim-handling strategies
- Communicate regularly with insurer clients and insureds regarding case developments and risk assessments
- Assist with trial preparation and participate in mediations and trials as needed
- Manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law firm
- Active membership in good standing with the California Bar
- 3-5 years of insurance coverage experience
- Experience analyzing and advising on complex insurance coverage matters
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities
- Ability to independently manage multiple sensitive and time-sensitive matters
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Litigation experience
- Experience representing insurance carriers in coverage disputes
- Additional state bar admissions are a plus
- Experience handling complex liability insurance matters
