Associate

Responsibilities

• Manage family law matters from intake through final resolution, including divorce, parental responsibility, child support, adoption, paternity, and related proceedings.
• Meet with clients to evaluate circumstances, explain legal options, and provide timely updates throughout each stage of a case.
• Prepare legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and other filings with strong attention to detail and persuasive written advocacy.
• Oversee discovery activities, including drafting requests, reviewing responses, and organizing materials needed to support case strategy.
• Prepare for and conduct depositions, gather testimony, and develop factual records that strengthen client positions.
• Represent clients in hearings, mediations, settlement discussions, and trial proceedings with confident oral advocacy.
• Negotiate resolutions when appropriate while balancing legal objectives, client priorities, and risk considerations.
• Cook up with attorneys and support staff to align case strategy, maintain deadlines, and ensure compliance with ethical and workplace standards.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active admission to the Colorado Bar.
• At least 2 years of legal experience, with meaningful exposure to family law matters.
• Demonstrated ability to handle cases involving divorce, custody, support, adoption, paternity, or similar domestic relations issues.
• Strong skills in legal research, motion practice, and written advocacy.
• Experience managing discovery and participating in or taking depositions.
• Courtroom experience that includes hearings and, ideally, trial preparation or trial participation.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and client relationship skills, supported by a thorough and empathetic approach.
• Able to organize multiple active matters, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively within a law firm environment.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have a strong background in family law, including experience with divorce, custody, support, adoption, paternity, or similar domestic relations issues. They should possess excellent legal research, motion practice, and written advocacy skills, as well as experience managing discovery and participating in or taking depositions. A demonstrated ability to handle complex cases and represent clients effectively in court is essential. Candidates should also have a proven track record of effective communication, negotiation, and client relationship management, with a thorough and empathetic approach.

Skills

The ideal candidate will have a combination of legal expertise, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to providing compassionate and strategic legal guidance to clients facing challenging family law matters. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is preferred, but not required.
