Associate/Assistant Professor - Aerospace Engineering (AY 27/28)

About the role

The Aerospace Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) is seeking a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank beginning approximately August 12, 2027.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and master's level Aerospace Engineering courses.
• Build and expand curricular development in Aerospace Engineering.
• Pursue research in aircraft flight dynamics, flight mechanics, guidance, navigation and control (GNC), autonomy, or related areas.
• Support and develop students into engineers ready to thrive in the modern aerospace industry.

Requirements

• An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Aerospace Engineering or a closely-related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required.
• Excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
• The ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students, and partnerships with key stakeholders.
• Experience with laboratory-based instruction and/or industry experience.

• Demonstrated experience and commitment to hands-on, student-centered learning and teaching.
• Strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Qualified candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. Anticipated hiring ranges: Assistant Professor: $110,000-$123,000 per year, and Associate Professor: $120,000 - $134,000 per year.

Schedule

Full-time academic year faculty may be assigned to teach in two consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring, Spring/Summer, or Summer/Fall) out of the three semesters offered annually. Faculty may also be eligible to teach in the third semester for additional compensation, subject to departmental needs and University policy.
