Associate, Application Engineer

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring frameworks.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code following established coding standards.
- Implement database queries and updates for relational databases (SQL Server) and work with NoSQL databases (Apache Cassandra) for data storage and retrieval.
- Integrate backend components with internal systems using RESTful APIs.
- Debug and fix defects in backend applications; assist in troubleshooting production issues.
- Participate in Agile and Scrum activities such as daily stand-ups and sprint tasks.
- Collaborate with team members, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver features on time.
- Follow best practices for version control, build processes, and deployment.
- Utilize AI-powered tools for improving development efficiency.
- Continuously learn new technologies and improve coding skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or as a Software Development Engineer, or a related role.
- Two (2) years of experience with the following:
- Object-Oriented Programming (OOP);
- Java;
- Backend and Full-Stack enterprise application development, building apps or services from the ground up and scaling at an enterprise level;
- Applying Design Patterns for scalable, maintainable code;
- SQL, Stored Procedures, and Relational Data Modeling;
- JUnit Testing with coverage standards and Mocking Frameworks (Mockito);
- Kafka for Messaging and Event-Driven Architecture;
- Modern DevOps practices and CI/CD Workflows;
- Cloud Infrastructure including AWS and Azure.
Pay
For San Francisco, CA, the salary range for this position is USD$147,500.00 - USD$162,000.00. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.

Schedule
BlackRock’s hybrid work model requires employees to work at least 4 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day a week. Some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
