About the role

The Associate Analyst supports the Economic and Financial Analysis (E&FA) department by maintaining the databases and analytical resources that staff and pilot members rely on—including airline financial and operational data, macroeconomic indicators, and equity analyst research.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting analysts on collective bargaining and research projects
  • Helping design and analyze pilot surveys
  • Maintaining the pay and contract comparison tools that staff and pilot members reference in preparation for and during negotiations
  • Helping prepare legal exhibits for grievances and arbitrations
  • Contributing to monthly industry articles for Air Line Pilot magazine
  • Serving as the central point of contact for E&FA databases, maintaining monthly Canada/U.S. economic indicators; quarterly Key Indicators for the U.S., Canadian, and Cargo sectors; quarterly Wall Street airline consensus forecasts; and annual summaries covering executive compensation and historical profit-sharing
  • Keeping the consolidated pay-rate database current and producing contract comparisons across U.S. and Canadian passenger, cargo, and FFD sectors
  • Providing ad hoc statistical, economic, and financial analysis in support of negotiations
  • Supporting research and strategic projects for department analysts and leadership
  • Assisting in preparing for arbitrations and other legal proceedings when called upon
  • Contributing to outreach and drafting articles for the Air Line Pilot magazine
  • Supporting the planning and running of E&FA's scheduling workshops and assisting with departmental participation in hosted workshops and meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university required; or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in economic, financial, or quantitative analysis required; five (5) or more years strongly preferred
  • At management discretion, additional equivalent experience and/or ALPA experience with proven expertise may be substituted for the above
  • Experience managing and analyzing structured datasets, including sourcing, evaluating, and analyzing data from external and government sources
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial or economic topics for a general audience
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience building and maintaining analytical models; familiarity with advanced functions and macros is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, with the ability to develop clear, professional presentations for varied audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity working with airline industry datasets, including DOT Form 41, OAG schedules, and/or Cirium data analytics
  • Prior experience supporting labor relations, legal research, and/or industry analysis; prior ALPA experience a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 collaboration environments (SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive), including document libraries, metadata and access management
  • Familiarity with data visualization or analytical tools such as Tableau, SQL, or Python

Pay

Projected annual salary range: $73,625.00 – $115,549.00
