Associate Actuary - Remote

About the role

Providence is seeking an Associate Actuary to perform complex actuarial work with minimal supervision and deliver high-quality results. This role involves clear communication of findings and recommendations to actuarial peers, leaders, and senior stakeholders across the organization. You will apply advanced critical thinking to identify complex issues, assess risk, and drive effective solutions while taking full ownership of complex projects from planning through completion. Additionally, you will provide guidance to project teams and support the growth of junior analysts through coaching and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex actuarial analyses with minimal supervision.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to actuarial peers, leaders, and senior stakeholders.
• Apply critical thinking to identify issues, assess risk, and develop solutions.
• Own complex projects from planning to completion, anticipating dependencies and risks.
• Provide guidance and coaching to project teams and junior analysts.
• Collaborate across teams to achieve shared outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Finance, or a related field.
• Successful completion of 4+ exams toward the Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation.
• Upon hire: Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation.
• 5 years of healthcare actuarial/analytics experience.
• Experience writing queries in SQL or another programming language.
• Demonstrated project management skills in data-related and financial analysis projects.
• Experience working for a large healthcare provider or plan.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Finance, or a related field.
• Upon hire: Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation.
• Experience with Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid revenue methodologies.
• Experience with Alternative Payment Models (APMs) and Value-Based Care contracts.

Salary Range by Location:

• AK: Anchorage: $48.27 - $76.22 per hour
• AK: Kodiak, Seward, Valdez: $50.32 - $79.45 per hour
• California: Humboldt: $50.32 - $79.45 per hour
• California: All Northern California (except Humboldt): $56.46 - $89.13 per hour
• California: All Southern California (except Bakersfield): $50.32 - $79.45 per hour
• California: Bakersfield: $48.27 - $76.22 per hour
• Montana (except Great Falls): $38.86 - $61.36 per hour
• Montana: Great Falls: $36.82 - $58.13 per hour
• New Mexico: $38.86 - $61.36 per hour
• Oregon: Non-Portland Service Area: $45.00 - $71.05 per hour
• Oregon: Portland Service Area: $48.27 - $76.22 per hour
• Texas: $36.82 - $58.13 per hour
• Washington: Western (except Tukwila): $50.32 - $79.45 per hour
• Washington: Southwest (Olympia, Centralia & below): $48.27 - $76.22 per hour
• Washington: Tukwila: $50.32 - $79.45 per hour
• Washington: Eastern: $42.96 - $67.82 per hour
• Washington: Southeastern: $45.00 - $71.05 per hour

These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
