About the Role

As an Associate Analytical Chemist at MKS | Atotech, you will partner with Operations to support laboratory analysis, interpret test results, and contribute to process improvement and technical problem-solving activities. In this role, you will report to the Lab Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for analysis by following established protocols and procedures, including measuring, weighing, mixing, diluting, or extracting substances.
  • Operate analytical instruments such as chromatographs, spectrometers, mass spectrometers, and other laboratory equipment. Ensure instruments are calibrated, maintained, and operated correctly.
  • Conduct experiments and tests to analyze the chemical composition of substances. Collect and record data accurately, ensuring proper documentation for analysis and interpretation.
  • Assist in the analysis of experimental data using statistical and analytical techniques. Use software programs to process and interpret results, identify trends, and draw conclusions.
  • Participate in quality control procedures to ensure laboratory operations meet established standards and regulatory requirements, including following safety protocols and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues during experiments or instrument operation. Collaborate with senior chemists to resolve technical problems and optimize experimental procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year of related experience.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and chemical safety.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience with troubleshooting analytical instruments.
  • Experience with SAP and related software.
  • General knowledge of lab tools such as pipettes, burettes, balances, and other labware.
  • Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as GC, IC, HPLC, UV/VIS, AAS, ICP.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Perform activities such as sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly requires good manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Occasionally moves/positions objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently positions self to perform tasks and positions objects below, at, and above shoulder level.
  • Ability to lift and handle chemical and laboratory equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended amounts of time.
  • Operates in a laboratory/manufacturing environment with specialized equipment and machinery for chemical operations.
  • Attention to safety protocols is paramount to mitigate risks associated with chemical operations.
  • Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals and fumes may occur; adherence to safety guidelines is mandatory.

This position is onsite, and candidates must be within commutable distance to Rock Hill, SC. Relocation benefits are not available. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
