About the role

You will focus on delivering high-quality occupational health care across the full scope of the profession. Your primary responsibility is advising on labor and health within LUMC and Leiden University, performing a range of occupational health tasks in the areas of absence management, health protection, and (infection) prevention.

Responsibilities

• Provide absence management for employees of LUMC and Leiden University, advising on recovery, reintegration, and vitality.
• Advise on working conditions and preventive measures.
• Conduct medical examinations and health assessments.
• Provide education on healthy working practices.
• Review and advise on Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E) reports.

You will be part of a skilled and collegial team consisting of occupational health physicians, occupational health experts, advisors, nurses, and support staff. We provide excellent practical training and guidance while you invest in your own development and career, laying a strong foundation to work as a registered occupational health physician, either within or outside LUMC.

Work environment

VGM Arbodienst+ is the certified internal occupational health service for LUMC and Leiden University, also serving a few external clients. VGM is part of the HRM directorate and consists of two teams: ‘Health’ and ‘Safety & Environment’. As a physician, you will be part of the Health team. We are responsible for the occupational health care of approximately 17,000 employees. We maintain short lines of communication with our clients and foster an excellent working atmosphere.

Requirements

• A completed medical degree and basic physician registration (with possible experience as a physician in occupational health).
• Affinity with occupational health and labor-related health issues.
• Excellent advisory and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• A collegial work attitude.

You demonstrate a strong motivation to develop in the field of occupational health. You have an affinity with the academic world or curative care. You support the shared responsibility of employees and managers for prevention and reintegration and provide education on this topic. You communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues both within and outside the team. You reflect critically on your own actions and contribute directly to the quality of our services.

Pay

As a trainee occupational health physician, your salary ranges from a minimum of €4,642 to a maximum of €6,393 gross per month (scale 11A, CAO UMC), based on a full-time position. From May 1, 2027, a salary increase of 3.5% applies.
