Assistant Youth Mentor - Before/After School Enrichment

About the role

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking an experienced professional passionate about nurturing great minds and working with children in a fun, diverse environment. The position involves planning and implementing curriculum, providing quality interactions, and maintaining a safe and engaging learning space.

Responsibilities

• Finding new and engaging ways to help kids learn, while maintaining control of environments that build children’s self-esteem
• Implementing curriculum for the program; ensuring child-centered and developmentally appropriate learning experiences
• Providing quality and appropriate adult/child interactions through engagement, positive and encouraging feedback, and asking open-ended questions
• Utilizing positive reinforcement techniques for redirection as a form of behavior management
• Being patient and kind with parents/guardians, communicating effectively and in a timely manner
• Accurately maintaining daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, and allergy reports, as well as compliant paperwork within timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports
• Ensuring centers are maintained with quality learning materials, organized accordingly in labeled containers associated with appropriate learning centers
• Attending team-planning meetings monthly or more as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or enrollment in 2+ years of child development coursework
• 2+ years verified child care experience
• Prior experience working with children (professional, volunteer, or familial)
• Passionate about working with children in a fun, diverse environment
• Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep up to date on trainings including but not limited to 6 hours of child care related trainings annually

Pay

$16.00-$16.50 per hour
