About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Environmental Water to join our Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA office.
Responsibilities
- Lead project planning and execution, making key decisions that will drive future ready water resource solutions for our clients on our water resources projects.
- Collaborate with our dedicated local teams, while being supported by our international expertise.
- Work with water resource and environmental engineers and professionals and environmental and permitting experts.
- Build relationships with our clients, becoming their trusted partner.
- Shape the future of our team through team leadership and business development activities.
- Identify potential clients, project opportunities and support pursuits, including development of proposals.
- Manage team members, supporting their career development and providing professional mentorship.
- Support business development activities by identifying clients and projects, and support pursuit activities, including client meetings, proposal development and interviewing.
- Be active in local professional organizations and remain current in latest water resources techniques.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, or Geology, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
- PE or PG license required (LA required, TX preferred).
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage resources, and foster collaboration among stakeholders, subcontractors and team members.
- Proficient knowledge of water engineering principles, practices and methods and their application to project work.
- Well-defined knowledge of water systems planning, design, engineering, cost estimating, and project management.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Work independently with minimal oversight and provide guidance and leadership to junior to mid-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from data, arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Qualifications
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Skills
- Project management and professional design and analysis relating to hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, modeling, and design projects for our water clients in the Texas and Louisiana area.
- Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams, including a variety of specialty subconsultants, to execute projects including managing scope, schedule, and budgets, while building client and team relationships.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from data, arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Coordination and direction of subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
