About the Role

The Assistant Vice President Branch Manager is responsible for motivating their team to acquire, expand, and retain member relationships while leading staff to maximize service and sales. This position manages a branch within the Retail Network, focusing on member deposits, loans, relationship growth, member satisfaction, and loyalty. The Branch Manager also cultivates community awareness and generates new business through industry contacts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and coaching for branch partners:
    • Model sales and service behaviors to achieve branch goals.
    • Observe and provide constructive feedback to improve sales skills.
    • Review performance standards and expectations for accountability.
    • Conduct timely performance coaching and formal appraisals.
    • Communicate organizational purpose, strategies, and team goals.
    • Develop highly engaged staff as measured by annual partner surveys.
    • Recognize positive behaviors and achievements professionally.
    • Ensure partners are trained on operational policies and procedures.
    • Facilitate team participation in training while maintaining service levels.
    • Work with HR to carry out disciplinary actions, including terminations.
    • Develop leadership skills, including communication, business understanding, and self-awareness.
  • Achieve branch sales goals:
    • Develop and implement strategies for net and gross sales targets.
    • Achieve deposit growth and loan volume targets.
    • Increase overall products and services per member.
  • Develop and maintain member satisfaction:
    • Use member feedback systems to enhance service and loyalty.
    • Implement strategies to achieve member satisfaction targets.
    • Model positive member service behaviors to increase loyalty.
    • Coach staff to improve member satisfaction skills.
    • Ensure compliance with policies, laws, and regulations.
    • Expand the Credit Union’s field of membership by attending community events.
  • Operations:
    • Manage and control branch operational expenses.
    • Ensure accuracy in teller and financial specialist transactions.
    • Carry out scheduled audits efficiently and accurately.
    • Maintain security procedures, equipment, and cash management policies.
    • Accurately record partner labor hours in time and attendance systems.
    • Apply skills to control loan and fraud losses.
    • Manage facility maintenance and repairs with the facility manager.
  • Regulatory compliance and confidentiality:
    • Follow regulatory and policy compliance requirements, including BSA, OFAC, and AML.
    • Maintain confidentiality of non-public member and Credit Union information.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises Assistant Branch Manager, Member Service Representatives, and Branch Service Supervisor; indirectly supervises other branch partners. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of experience in a financial institution.
  • Demonstrated success in selling financial products, coaching staff, and knowledge of retail financial products and services.
  • May require a Notary Public certificate.

Skills

  • Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, and regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Mathematical skills: Ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, and apply basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning ability: Solve practical problems with limited standardization, interpret instructions in various forms (written, oral, diagrams), and analyze financial statements and credit reports.
  • Technical skills: Intermediate to expert skill in operating CRT units, accounting systems, and member account information. Ability to perform accounting tasks, reconcile accounts, and access Federal Reserve and Corporate Credit Union accounts. Basic spreadsheet knowledge is desirable.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to walk and sit; occasionally stand, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment is usually quiet to moderate in noise level.
