Assistant Utility Superintendent – Line Work

About the Role
As a Team Member and Assistant Utility Superintendent focused on line work, you will organize, prioritize, and uphold the Sanford Contractors brand through your actions and professionalism. This role supports the superintendent in coordinating project requirements, ensuring safety, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

- Assist superintendent in coordinating production schedules and project requirements with project managers
- Attend owner preconstruction, progress, and in-house preconstruction meetings
- Assist superintendent in planning and arranging traffic control per NCDOT requirements
- Coordinate all utility locates before and during construction
- Proof plans for underground conflicts prior to construction
- Assist superintendent in maintaining project schedules and scheduling subcontractors
- Determine daily and weekly goals to communicate with Utility Foreman and team members
- Coordinate materials, equipment, and safety devices required for the project
- Work with local authorities on inspections and work coordination
- Assist in decision-making for utility line installations when conflicts arise, coordinating changes with engineering firms and utility owners
- Complete and submit all required paperwork (daily project reports, time sheets, toolbox talks, etc.) in a timely manner
- Provide team members with proper tools, safety gear, and knowledge of work
- Maintain equipment/tools in good working condition, clean, and inventoried
- Prepare as-built drawings
- Verify field quantities and compare to bid documents
- Assist in filling out weekly quantity/tracking spreadsheets and compiling quantities for monthly pay requests
- Effectively communicate with project owners, subcontractors, private property owners, NCDOT, and utility company owners
- Ensure all material/delivery tickets are submitted to accounts payable with job numbers
- Communicate time away from work with sufficient notice
- Stay updated on industry best practices and contribute to process improvements
Requirements
- 1-3+ years' experience in Water/Force Main/Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drain Line work for the construction industry (preferred)
- OSHA Supervisor Training
- Trenching and Excavation Competent Person certification
- Rigging certification
- Qualified Work Zone Traffic Control Supervisor certification
- Flagger certification
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Familiarity with AHJ (Authorities Having Jurisdiction)
