About the role
The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Oklahoma seeks an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) to serve in the Civil Division. The position involves investigating and prosecuting civil enforcement cases, defending against torts, handling employment discrimination, land condemnation, and bankruptcy cases. The successful candidate will work closely with federal agency and law enforcement partners.
Responsibilities
- Prosecute or defend civil cases at all stages of the investigation and litigation processes, including trials and appeals.
- Take depositions, prepare and answer discovery requests, negotiate settlements, engage in motions practice, conduct trials, draft appellate briefs, and argue cases before appellate judges.
- Work independently in a demanding environment, demonstrating superior research and writing skills, critical decision-making abilities, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Process, use, and comprehend large electronically stored discovery records, and maintain a well-developed attention to detail and accuracy.
- Utilize computer literacy skills, including automated legal research, electronic court filing, electronic email, and word processing systems.
Requirements
- J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
- United States citizenship.
- At least 1 year of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
- Reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
- Pass a background investigation.
- Register for Selective Service, if applicable.

- Superior research and writing skills, including spotting issues, developing arguments, and presenting rebuttal points.
- Ability to process, use, and comprehend large electronically stored discovery records.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex oral arguments to district and appellate judges.
- Well-developed attention to detail and accuracy to present issues, arguments, and evidence with a high degree of professionalism.
- Computer literacy skills, including experience in automated legal research, electronic court filing, electronic email, and word processing systems and similar software.

Salary and Benefits
- Pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience.
- The range of basic pay is $76,748 to $197,100.
- Additional benefits include retirement, life insurance, health benefits, and telework.
Travel
- Occasional travel: In the District, the state of Oklahoma, and throughout the nation is likely to be necessary. Travel requirements typically entail no more than 1-5 days per month.
