Duties

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio seeks an attorney with criminal litigation experience. This position will be located in the Akron Branch Office. AUSAs selected for this position will be required to travel to Cleveland, Ohio for the first thirty days of employment, and this initial training period may be extended as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Advise federal law enforcement agents on criminal investigations.
  • Present criminal cases to the grand jury.
  • Try criminal cases before the United States District Court.
  • Represent the United States in criminal appeals before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Requirements

  • A J.D. Degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
  • United States citizenship.
  • At least three (3) full years of post-bar admission experience in criminal law.
  • Reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
  • Pass a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
  • Have a favorable background investigation.
  • Be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.

Pay

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $86,101 to $188,031 which includes 22.23% locality pay.

Relocation Expenses

Relocation expenses will not be authorized.

Travel

The AUSA may be required to travel throughout the Northern District of Ohio to attend court proceedings, interview witnesses, attend meetings, and to participate in training at the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina. AUSAs selected for positions in branch offices may be expected to travel to Cleveland, Ohio for training and other district events. Additionally, AUSAs selected for this position will be required to travel to Cleveland, Ohio for the first thirty days of employment, and this initial training period may be extended as necessary.
