About the role

Provides a wide variety of support services for the units (s). Provides clerical support by maintaining patient records, unit supplies, equipment, and serving as a facilitator for communications for the assigned area. Functions under the direction of a registered professional nurse. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team. This position will care for patients in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and reports basic patient physiological data (such as vital signs, weight, skin condition, color and character of urine and stool).
  • Maintains patient records and documents fluid intake and output.
  • Monitors and reports physical and mental status changes to licensed staff.
  • Organizes patient care and prioritizes tasks according to physician and nursing orders.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures within the scope of the job description.
  • Explains procedures to patients and responds to patient call lights.
  • Enters discharge times and completes D/C’d patient chart documentation.
  • Ensures patient safety by practicing universal precautions and adhering to NGHS hand hygiene policy.
  • Restocks and distributes supplies as needed.
  • Completes daily/weekly requisitions and maintains printer and telemetry battery levels.
  • Reads and responds to emails in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Licensure or other certifications: None required.
  • Education: High School Diploma, GED, or high school transcript showing completion of at least the sophomore level of high school.
  • Experience: No previous experience is required. Candidates must have completed the Foundations of Nursing course (RN students only), have at least six months of PCT experience within the past two years, and hold a current and active CNA certification.

  • Ability to work effectively with other departments and the general public.
  • Accepts direction from the nursing staff and performs basic skills and procedures designated for unit assistants.
  • Typing skills preferred but not required; ability to operate the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Good interpersonal skills and adaptable in changing situations & work assignments.
  • Able to concentrate during multiple interactions & interruptions.
