About the role
The Probationary Assistant Unit Operator (AUO) follows established operating procedures and performs assigned duties under the immediate supervision of the unit operator and general supervision of the shift operations supervisor. The incumbent may supervise students, trainees, and other employees as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and manipulative operations without close supervision.
- Carry out more difficult operations under observation or direct communication with the unit operator or supervision.
- Operate plant equipment, turbo generator units, and appurtenant equipment in areas such as the boiler room, turbine room, condenser room, screen, and pump house.
- Operate all equipment at the pumping station, including central control boards and local manual/automatic control stations.
- Respond and participate as a qualified member of the plant fire brigade and hazardous material response team.
- Support outage activities, preventive/predictive maintenance, and procedure writing as assigned.
- Conduct routine inspection tours of assigned equipment and maintain cleanliness in the work area.
- Assist in instructing and training student operators, trainees, and new operators on plant safety and operational procedures.
- Document daily activities and record instrument readings for plant operation records.
- Perform electrical and mechanical switching, valving, and place protective tags as part of the TVA clearance process.
Requirements
- Relevant TVA Coal Plant experience required.
- Fundamental knowledge of power plant systems and operations, with the ability to apply this knowledge in emergencies and routine operations.
- Minimum of 3 years of steam plant operating experience in a role similar to TVA’s assistant unit operator or operator.
- Training and education comparable to the Joint Training Program, with differences assessed by the Joint Training Team.
- Must satisfactorily complete the Assistant Unit Operator Clearance and Tagging Training.
- Must meet TVA standards for regulatory requirements in the electric utility business.
- Qualification to participate in the fire brigade, first responder, and hazardous material response team may be required.
Supplementary Knowledge
This position requires a general knowledge of steam turbo generators, steam generators, principles of combustion, and related auxiliary equipment. The ability to apply this knowledge to correct procedures in emergencies and routine operations is essential.
Pay
$104,830
Schedule
This is a probationary position with an 18-month probation period.
