Assistant Town Engineer

About the role

The Town of Scarborough is seeking a full-time Assistant Town Engineer to join their Engineering & Technical Services Department. This position assists in various administrative and technical tasks related to construction oversight, civil engineering infrastructure design and planning, technical studies, and long-term plans.

Responsibilities

• Searching for and administering grant opportunities
• Oversight of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts
• Project development
• Administration of projects from planning study stage to construction completion
• Facilitating technical assessments and studies
• Reporting to Federal and State agencies
• Navigating grant reimbursement protocol
• Assisting with FEMA recovery projects
• Managing new smaller initiatives utilizing in-house staff

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college program
• An individual with a P.E. license in the State of Maine and 10 years of experience is preferred, but an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
• General knowledge of engineering principles and construction practices as they apply to municipal and private infrastructure
• High attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and clear communication in verbal and written formats

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences
• Facilitation of large group discussions
• Preparation of written reports, plans, maps, and illustrations
• Proficiency in personal computer use including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software, presentation software, and engineering/design software
• Proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS) is preferred but not required
• Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record
