About the role
The Town of Scarborough is seeking a full-time Assistant Town Engineer to join their Engineering & Technical Services Department. This position assists in various administrative and technical tasks related to construction oversight, civil engineering infrastructure design and planning, technical studies, and long-term plans.
Responsibilities
- Searching for and administering grant opportunities
- Oversight of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts
- Project development
- Administration of projects from planning study stage to construction completion
- Facilitating technical assessments and studies
- Reporting to Federal and State agencies
- Navigating grant reimbursement protocol
- Assisting with FEMA recovery projects
- Managing new smaller initiatives utilizing in-house staff
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college program
- An individual with a P.E. license in the State of Maine and 10 years of experience is preferred, but an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
- General knowledge of engineering principles and construction practices as they apply to municipal and private infrastructure
- High attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and clear communication in verbal and written formats
Qualifications
- Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences
- Facilitation of large group discussions
- Preparation of written reports, plans, maps, and illustrations
- Proficiency in personal computer use including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software, presentation software, and engineering/design software
- Proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS) is preferred but not required
- Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record
