Assistant Technician, Design Support

About the role

The candidate will be involved in projects with our Small Utility Services team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities

• Takes part in providing technical design and CADD support on projects to produce designs and specifications used for utility system planning, infrastructure, and construction.
• Tasks may include generating CADD designs on assigned aspects of projects of basic to moderate scale and complexity.
• Generates accurate and concise design deliverables including plans, drawings, models, details, and supporting documentation.
• Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design accuracy and functionality.
• Supports engineers, designers, and project teams with drafting and design activities related to utility system projects.
• Develops construction drawings and design deliverables from concept through construction.
• Prepares and modifies drawings using AutoCAD and other drafting tools.
• Collaborates with engineering teams to incorporate markups and revisions into design documents.
• Maintains drawing accuracy and ensures adherence to client and company drafting standards.
• Collects and organizes data from specifications, sketches, field notes, and other sources to support drafting efforts.
• Affixes and produces technical documentation and drawing packages.
• Ensures all work complies with applicable standards, project requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
• Participates in project coordination efforts with internal teams and external stakeholders as needed.
• Learns and applies new software, tools, and drafting standards as required.
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail, initiative, and commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
• Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in drafting, engineering technology, or related field; or equivalent industry experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Basic understanding of drafting and design principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to learn new tools and processes and apply training effectively.
• Self-motivated with a strong initiative and willingness to grow.
• Ability to manage assigned tasks independently and meet project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on utility, power, or infrastructure projects.
• Exposure to 3D modeling and drafting tools.
• Familiarity with utility design standards and construction drawings.
• Willingness to travel occasionally (day trips) as needed.

Pay

Expected Salary (all locations): $49,600.00 - $81,800.00
