ASSISTANT TEACHER-SPECIAL EDUCATION

About the role

This position serves in a supportive capacity for educational programs and services, assisting teachers and directly engaging with students and parents.

Responsibilities

• Assists with student academic goals by working with small groups or individuals.
• Affirms classroom management and behavioral plans, fostering an appropriate learning environment.
• Supervises students during various school activities and programs.
• Supports the ARD/IEP process by preparing and entering necessary paperwork and data.
• Provides specialized instruction and services to students with significant cognitive disabilities, including physical tasks and behavior management.
• Teaches appropriate behavioral skills to students needing such support.
• Offers academic and behavioral support to small groups or individual students in different educational settings.
• May be required to take a CPI certification class to implement de-escalation techniques and legal restraint procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Minimum of 48 college hours preferred.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
• Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred or the ability to obtain it.
