About the role
This position serves as instructional support for students in various educational settings, under the supervision of teachers and professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assists with student academic goals by working with small groups or individuals.
- Affirms classroom management and behavioral plans, creating an appropriate learning environment.
- Supervises students during various school activities such as breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, and special events.
- Prepares paperwork for ARD/IEP processes and collects/enters data for special education reports.
- Supports the planning, preparation, and implementation of differentiated instruction for individual students and groups.
- May assist in Life Skills, Behavior, Resource, or In-Class Support settings, depending on the needs of the campus and students.
- May be required to take a CPI certification class or equivalent to implement de-escalation techniques and legal restraint procedures during crisis situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 48 college hours preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred or the ability to acquire it.
Skills and Abilities
- Work well under pressure.
- Take direction from teachers and administrators.
- Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Use computer including software, database, spreadsheet, word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
- Analyze data.
- Use effective interview techniques, public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- May assist with special requirements for working with assigned students (see Duties and Responsibilities, above).
- Nights and weekend activities may be occasionally required.
- The position is in the classroom setting and requires intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing.
- Moderate travel may be required.
