About the role

This position serves as instructional support for students in various educational settings, under the supervision of teachers and professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with student academic goals by working with small groups or individuals.
  • Affirms classroom management and behavioral plans, creating an appropriate learning environment.
  • Supervises students during various school activities such as breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, and special events.
  • Prepares paperwork for ARD/IEP processes and collects/enters data for special education reports.
  • Supports the planning, preparation, and implementation of differentiated instruction for individual students and groups.
  • May assist in Life Skills, Behavior, Resource, or In-Class Support settings, depending on the needs of the campus and students.
  • May be required to take a CPI certification class or equivalent to implement de-escalation techniques and legal restraint procedures during crisis situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of 48 college hours preferred.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
  • Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred or the ability to acquire it.

  • Work well under pressure.
  • Take direction from teachers and administrators.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Use computer including software, database, spreadsheet, word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
  • Analyze data.
  • Use effective interview techniques, public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • May assist with special requirements for working with assigned students (see Duties and Responsibilities, above).
  • Nights and weekend activities may be occasionally required.
  • The position is in the classroom setting and requires intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing.
  • Moderate travel may be required.
