ASSISTANT TEACHER (Preschool Expansion)

About the role

The F.M. Kirby Children's Center of the Madison Area YMCA is seeking an Assistant Teacher in their preschool expansion classroom, partnering with the Morris School District.

Responsibilities

• Support the lead teacher
• Implement the Creative Curriculum
• Supervise and engage with children during free play, group activities, and routine times

Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time
• Bend, kneel, lean
• Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids
• Able to lift and assist children up to 50 pounds in weight
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Speak concisely and effectively communicate
• Respond visually and auditorily to critical situations
• Act swiftly in emergencies
• Administer first aid

Qualifications

• Abilities to maintain boundaries, follow mandated reporting requirements, and uphold policies and procedures to protect youth and participants
• Attend required trainings
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors
• Adhere to procedures that minimize risk

Skills

• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of child development and the Creative Curriculum
