About the Role

The Assistant Teacher, in collaboration with the Lead Teacher, will create and maintain a safe, fun, and thriving age-appropriate classroom environment under the supervision of the Principal. This role involves providing direct instruction using an established curriculum, assisting in classroom management, and acting as the Lead Teacher in their absence. The Assistant Teacher will help build a Christ-centered, intentional classroom for preschool and pre-kindergarten children while adhering to Washington State DCYF Licensing Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Model a committed Christian faith and minister to the spiritual needs of students and the school community.
  • Educate students in a manner consistent with CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Commitment (CCC), integrating a biblical worldview into all curriculum and activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Bible and apply a biblical worldview to subject matter and personal conduct.
  • Engage and inspire the academic, spiritual, and emotional growth of students through godly leadership.
  • Lead staff devotionals and prayer as needed.
  • Support the Director in maintaining a quality program aligned with the Early Learning Center’s standards and mission.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining a safe and well-functioning classroom, gym, and outdoor play areas, including active supervision and naptime routines.
  • Use positive behavior support strategies to creatively solve problems and address student concerns.
  • Build and maintain a developmentally appropriate toddler and/or preschool environment, organizing and caring for classroom materials.
  • Comply with state regulations for licensed preschools, including health practices, diapering/toileting, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Develop positive relationships with students and families, demonstrating warmth, consistency, and professionalism.
  • Assist in lesson preparation and implementation, supporting transitions, small groups, and whole-group activities.
  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to changing classroom situations.
  • Assist in writing child observations and preparing progress reports, sharing relevant observations in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, coworkers, students, and parents through clear and respectful communication.
  • Support daily care routines such as meals, snacks, diapering, toileting, and hygiene, following licensing and health guidelines.
  • Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures, responding appropriately to illness, injury, and unexpected situations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment, including daily setup, cleanup, and sanitation tasks.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by participating in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, reflecting CRISTA’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
  • Committed Christian dedicated to spiritual growth through prayer, fellowship, and Bible study.
  • Affirms and aligns with CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
  • Conducts themselves in a manner reflecting CRISTA’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Washington State ECE Initial Certificate (12 credits) or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience working with toddler, preschool, or early elementary-age children or prior experience in children’s ministry.
  • Washington State 30-hour basic training or proof of a waiver.
  • Child/infant CPR and first aid certification.
  • HIV and bloodborne pathogen training.
  • Food handlers’ card.
  • Proof of negative Tb skin test.
  • Proof of MMR vaccination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Office 365, Teams, and OneNote.
  • Ability to work with a multi-ethnic, culturally diverse student and parent population.
  • Friendly and courteous demeanor when working with the public.
  • Maintains confidentiality and composure in a busy, open setting.
  • Patient, child-centered temperament.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with young children and parents.
  • Able to work collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, students, and parents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CDA or working toward a one- or two-year degree in Early Childhood Education or related teaching experience.
  • Two years of prior experience working with toddler-aged children.
