Nestled in the sunny foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Sierra Waldorf School is a vibrant, fully AWSNA-accredited school serving approximately 133 students from Preschool through Eighth Grade. Our rural campus in historic Rawhide Valley, just a short drive from Yosemite National Park, provides a beautiful natural setting where children and educators can learn, work, and grow together.

Essential Job Duties

  • Follow the Waldorf Curriculum as directed by the Class Teacher, which may include but is not limited to the following:
  • Participate in classroom setup, cleaning, and preparation at the beginning of the school year. Closing down a classroom for summer.
  • Share in the care of the children under the Class Teacher’s direction.
  • Supervise children during regular class hours
  • Supervise independent play
  • Prepare snack
  • Maintain food lists for the Lead Assistant
  • Housekeeping
  • Handwork support and duties
  • Participation and support in story time and circle time
  • Help the children to clean and tidy the classroom
  • Hold rest time and closing classroom duties
  • Attend EC faculty mentoring for the last hour
  • Attend the first hour of Faculty Meetings
  • Attend one or more early childhood courses a year

Qualifications

  • Required Skills/abilities:
  • Ability to hold the rhythm of the day when asked to sub within the classroom
  • Familiarity with a kitchen and ability to follow recipes
  • Organizational skills
  • Professionalism- including the ability to keep adult conversations away from the children and personal phones put away while working
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Able to follow the lead of the teacher
  • Desired Skills/abilities:
  • Food preparation for a large group of children

Education and Experience

  • Required Education and experience:
  • 6 core units of early childhood education and enrolled in at least two-semester units at a college until fully qualified with 12 core units of coursework in early childhood education or child development; at least one course must be in each of the following:
  • Child, family, community, or child/family relations
  • Programs/curriculum
  • Child/human growth and development
  • Experience working with children
  • Assistant Teacher must pass, FBI and Child Abuse Reference Check (CAIC) Fingerprinting clearance through Live Scan

  • While carrying out the responsibilities of this position, employees are regularly required to monitor and communicate with children and coworkers. This often involves standing, sitting, walking, and using hands and fingers. Occasionally, employees may need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Additionally, they may need to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Work will take place both outdoors and in a classroom setting, which may frequently be noisy. Employees may also be exposed to bacterial contamination.

Employment Details

  • Time, weeks/year
  • This position runs for the duration of the school year, (mid August through mid-June) excluding seasonal breaks and holidays, 10-36 hours per week including time for mentoring.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base wage $17.50 – $25 per hour
  • Possible 50% remission
