Brief Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing leadership and guidance to children, families, and staff
  • Affirm the implementation of SJB Curriculum
  • Affirm the establishment of a climate of respect for each child's individuality, physical characteristics, culture, language, ethnicity, family structure, developmental needs, and behaviors
  • Affirm the establishment and maintenance of a positive relationship with each child's parent and/or caregiver
  • Interact with all children in encouraging and positive ways
  • Nurture and facilitate the learning experience by meeting each child at their point of need through a variety of teaching methods, which include but are not limited to individualized care and small group experiences
  • Affirm the daily support of children's learning processes
  • Affirm the implementation of a positive approach of combining consistency, empathy, and culturally diverse practices
  • Offer clear expressions of expectations with natural and logical consequences
  • Affirm the support of the orientation process of families
  • Affirm the provision of direct support, engagement, and extension of a child's play and learning experiences by offering assistance and providing resources
  • Affirm the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum activities for children
  • Affirm the design of interest areas to provide choices, opportunities for safe risks, and challenges for children to interact, learn, create, and thrive while corresponding with the developmental and individual needs of each child, thus fostering the desire to learn
  • Mandated to conduct daily health checks upon the children's arrival and departure
  • Affirm the implementation of monthly fire drills, earthquake drills, and annual disaster drills
  • Affirm the reporting of safety hazards and injuries to the teacher immediately
  • Affirm the adherence to health and safety standards for children, families, and staff
  • Affirm the observation of signs of illness in children at all times and assist in directing ill children to the proper medical attention
  • Affirm travel when necessary to conduct SJB business
  • Affirm the support of the Site Supervisor in meeting all Licensing and Sub-Contractor Regulations, Funding, Terms & Conditions, SJB policies & procedures, and the Education Code where applicable
  • Affirm the maintenance of confidentiality of children, families, and employees
  • Affirm the promotion of the mission, values, and philosophy of SJB Network with community and early childhood professionals
  • Affirm the facilitation and monitoring of the continual evaluation of each child's progress
  • Affirm the network with related outreach organizations to remain current on issues affecting children and families as directed by Site Supervisor
  • Affirm the determination of program/site needs and inform Associate Teacher

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum of 6 semester ECE or CD units (including 1 core course – Programs/Curriculum, Child Family Community, Child/Human Growth & Development)
  • Three semester units in the care and development of infants is required for those who work with infants and children
  • Teacher Assistant Permit or eligibility to obtain a Teacher Assistant Permit within 90 days
  • Must be in good physical health as verified by a current health screening and Tuberculosis test (less than 60 days prior to employment)
  • Proof of up-to-date immunization records to include but not limited to Measles, Pertussis, Tuberculosis (every 4 years) and Influenza (annually)
  • Current Pediatric First Aid and CPR from an approved vendor
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, criminal record, FBI and DOJ clearance and child abuse index check prior to employment
  • Must possess California Driver’s License and meet minimum insurance requirements for personal vehicle and have a driving record which meets the standards set forth in Administrative Regulation 4532 and 4533
  • Completion of Mandated Reporter Training as per Assembly Bill 1207. Must be completed every 2 years
  • Knowledge of Title 5/22 Regulations, Principles of Child Development, Curriculum Development, Basic clerical duties, Microsoft Office applications, AB, Reasoning Ability, Physical Demands and Work Environment, and Language Skills
