ASSISTANT TEACHER

About the role

This position serves under direct supervision, performing instructional duties and providing direct services to students or parents. It involves assisting teachers in educational programs and services, managing classrooms, and supporting special education initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher(s) with student academic goals, working with small groups or individuals.
• Affirms classroom management and behavioral plans, creating an appropriate learning environment.
• Supervises students during various school activities such as breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, and special events.
• Prepares paperwork for ARD/IEP processes, collects and enters data for special education reports, and assists in differentiated instruction planning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Minimum of 48 college hours preferred.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred or the ability to obtain it.

• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships internally and externally.
• Organizing special programs for assigned campuses.
• Using computers, including software, databases, spreadsheets, word processing, calculators, copy machines, and telephones.
• Analyzing data.
• Using effective interview techniques, public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
• Nights and weekends occasionally required.
• Classroom setting with intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing.
• Moderate travel required.
