Assistant Teacher

About the role

The Assistant Teacher assists with student instruction and behavioral supports in the Minnick Schools, a system of private day schools for students with special needs. The role requires driving, so a "clean driving record" is critical.

Responsibilities

• Aid in classroom management and academic instruction.
• Implement behavior intervention plans and strategies.
• Obtain Safety Care certification and implement Safety Care strategies.
• Maintain student records and assigned documentation.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
• Maintain professional boundaries in all interactions.
• Assist classroom teachers with supervision of students.
• Provide instruction and supervision of students when the teacher is not present.
• Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and IEP meetings as requested.
• Arrive at work regularly and on time.
• Communicate professionally and convey dignity and respect to students, parents, colleagues, and other professionals.

Requirements and Prerequisites

• High School diploma/GED with at least one year’s experience in working with students who receive special education services, mental health, or other direct services.
• Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
• Valid Virginia Drivers' License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.
• Satisfactory Driving Record.
• 12-month position.
• Work Schedule: Monday-Friday – 8:00AM-4:00PM.
• Driving Specific: Must not have certain violations within the last 5 or 3 years as outlined in the responsibilities section.

Qualifications

Driving Specific

• No reckless driving, DUI, manslaughter, habitual offender, suspended or revoked license, commercial motor vehicle violations, vehicular assault, blocking access, vulnerable road user violations, passing a stopped school bus, careless driving, or three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.
