About the role
The Assistant Teacher assists with student instruction and behavioral supports in the Minnick Schools, a system of private day schools for students with special needs. The role requires driving, hence a "clean driving record" is critical.
Responsibilities
- Aid in classroom management and academic instruction.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and strategies as directed.
- Obtain Safety Care certification and implement Safety Care strategies to respond to and de-escalate negative behaviors.
- Maintain student records and assigned documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Maintain professional boundaries in all interactions with students and staff.
- Assist classroom teachers with supervision of students and provide instruction and supervision when the teacher is not present.
- Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and IEP meetings as requested.
- Arrive at work regularly and arrive in a timely fashion.
- Communicate professionally and convey dignity and respect to students, parents, co-workers, and other professionals.
Requirements and Prerequisites
- High School diploma/GED with at least one year’s experience in working with students who receive special education services, mental health, or other direct services.
- Basic computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office.
- Valid Virginia Drivers' License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.
- Satisfactory Driving Record.

Minimum Education, Training, Requirements and Prerequisites

Driving Specific
To be eligible for this position, candidates must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years:
- Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
- Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
- Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
- Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
- Driving on a suspended or revoked license.
- Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
- Injuring a person while racing - felony.
- Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
- Emergency vehicle violation - death.
- Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
- Blocking access to the service facility.
- Attempting to elude police.
- Operating an unsafe vehicle.
- Vulnerable Road User – Death.
Candidates must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:
- Passing a stopped school bus.
- Careless driving.
- Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.

Monday-Friday – 8:00AM-4:00PM.
