About the Role

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern Hampshire is a dynamic organization supporting 200 staff across 30 Early Childhood and School Time programs. The Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center at NHTI's child development center is a laboratory school serving as a demonstration setting for best practices in early childhood education, with student teachers working alongside staff. This full-time, multi-classroom Assistant Teacher position offers excellent potential for growth within a multi-site organization dedicated to professional development and training. The center serves children from 6 weeks to kindergarten.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and implement the BGCCNNH mission, supporting children and teachers while ensuring health and safety.
• Actively engage with children, assist with cleaning and organizing the classroom, and support teachers with child observations.
• Create an environment that facilitates youth development outcomes by responding sensitively to children’s needs, encouraging exploration, and using positive child guidance strategies.
• Assist with curriculum implementation, adapting activities to meet individual needs of young children and their families.
• Provide guidance and role modeling to Club members, ensuring health and safety in all programs and activities.
• Track outcome metrics and verify programs address member needs, including gender and cultural diversity.
• Record child observation notes for Lead/Associate Teachers to use in curriculum planning.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date member records, accounting for all children in the assigned group.
• Follow NAEYC standards, GSQ (when applicable), Culture DNA code, BGCCNNH, and CCLU rules and policies for safety, compliance, and best practices.
• Assist with dispensing medications and administering first aid as needed, communicating all occurrences to families.
• Support classroom well-being and upkeep, including cleaning and organizing.
• Assist teachers in recognizing and recording children’s progress and documenting classroom activities, including behavioral observations, accident reports, and family communications.
• Accept and apply feedback to improve practice, facilitating open and professional communication with families, staff, and children.
• Observe classroom staff, students, and volunteers to ensure best practices are followed, reporting concerns to the Center Director or supervisor.
• Support volunteers and practicum students by modeling techniques that connect theory to practice.
• Increase visibility of Club programs by sharing daily progress and activities with families via Class Dojo or in person.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age and work under direct supervision when with children.
• Some knowledge of child development and current educational theories and practices.
• Ability to form developmentally appropriate relationships with children and promote positive behavior guidance.
• Ability to organize and supervise children in a safe environment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to assist teachers or supervisors.
• Strong communication skills with staff, families, and community members.
• Willingness to maintain the Club dress code and assist in planning and implementing quality programs.
• Proven creative and artistic teaching abilities.
• Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications to meet Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.
• Willingness to assist in cleaning and organizing the Club.
• Ability to travel between locations occasionally when requested.
• Must maintain confidentiality.
• Must pass an FBI fingerprint background check, State of NH Criminal Records check, and FirstAdvantage background check.
