Assistant Swim Team Coach - Lincoln

About the role

The Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for teaching swimming skills to the Silver and Bronze groups on the Swim Team under the general direction of the Swim Team Director and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley. The role also includes representing the YMCA in a professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful manner to members and prospective members. All YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment, including following abuse prevention policies, reporting concerns or incidents immediately, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.

Responsibilities

• Teach the fundamentals of starts, turns, and the four competitive strokes.
• Provide a safe, clean, and attractive aquatic facility.
• Adhere to and maintain pool rules and regulations.
• Carry out proper emergency policies and procedures.
• Adhere to and maintain the employee’s code of conduct and safety policies and procedures.
• Report to work promptly and be well-groomed at all times.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Swim Team Director or Executive Director.

Physical Requirements

The Assistant Swim Coach must be able to maneuver the grounds and facilities freely and perform tasks including, but not limited to: walking, stooping, carrying a minimum of 50 lbs., sitting, standing, pushing, climbing, kneeling, lifting a minimum of 50 lbs., and crouching.

Safety and Compliance

• No alcohol or drugs may be used on the job at any time.
• Report all job accidents the same day they occur.
• Obtain authorization from your supervisor for all non-emergency treatments for accidents.
• Wear seat belts at all times in company vehicles.
• Keep the work area clean and neat at all times.
• Do not remove or bypass any guards on machinery.
• Ask your supervisor when additional equipment or instructions are needed to perform the job safely.
• Lift with your legs, not your back, and seek assistance with loads over 50 pounds.
• Advise your supervisor of any hazardous conditions.
• Follow all written and spoken safety rules.

Qualifications

• Certified in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding.
• Knowledge of swimming techniques and swimming progressions.
• Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.
• Knowledge and enforcement of pool rules and regulations.
• Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility.
• Good communication skills.
