About the Role
The Assistant Swim Coach, under the general direction of the Swim Team Director, is responsible for teaching swimming skills to the Silver and Bronze groups on the Swim Team. This role also includes providing swim instruction to YMCA members and prospective members enrolled in swim lessons. The Assistant Swim Coach represents the YMCA in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
Responsibilities
- Teach the fundamentals of starts, turns, and the four competitive strokes.
- Provide a safe, clean, and attractive aquatic facility.
- Adhere to and maintain pool rules and regulations.
- Carry out proper emergency policies and procedures.
- Adhere to and maintain the employee’s code of conduct and safety policies and procedures.
- Report to work promptly and be well-groomed at all times.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Swim Team Director or Executive Director.
- Create a safe, inclusive environment by following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention and reporting concerns.
- Observe and enforce the following rules:
- No alcohol or drugs on the job.
- Report all job accidents the same day they occur.
- Obtain authorization for non-emergency treatments for accidents.
- Wear seat belts at all times in company vehicles.
- Maintain a clean and neat work area.
- Do not remove or bypass guards on machinery.
- Ask for additional equipment or instructions when needed.
- Lift with your legs, not your back, and seek assistance for loads over 50 pounds.
- Advise your supervisor of any hazardous conditions.
- Follow all other written and spoken safety rules.
Requirements
- Certified in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding.
- Knowledge of swimming techniques and progressions.
- Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.
- Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements.
- Good communication skills.
Physical Requirements
The Assistant Swim Coach must represent the organization in a professional image and be capable of:
- Maneuvering the grounds and facilities freely (walking, stooping, carrying a minimum of 50 lbs., sitting, standing, pushing, climbing, kneeling, lifting a minimum of 50 lbs., and crouching).

Pay
USD $12.00 - USD $18.00 per hour.
