About the role
The YMCA of Greenville is seeking an Assistant Swim Coach to provide a superior experience to members and program participants by assisting in leading swim league programs in a safe and effective manner. Responsibilities
- Respond to member and guest needs, providing customer service and maintaining a safe aquatics environment.
- Assist in coaching swim practice.
- Greet and welcome participants each day.
- Ensure all equipment and instructional methods are appropriate.
- Provide timely and accurate feedback to participants (or parents) about their progress and skills they need to work on.
- Consult with the Swim Coach to ensure participants are incorporating new skills and drills.
- Wear the required uniform to convey a professional appearance.
- Maintain a clean, safe, fully stocked, and well-organized work area.
- Inform the supervisor of any equipment needs or concerns.
- Handle and resolve concerns and inform the supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
- Provide accurate, appropriate, and immediate responses to all requests by members/guests.
- Leave the area in a clean and orderly condition by ensuring all equipment is returned to its appropriate area.
- Maintain required instructional certifications.
- Work with direct supervision of the Swim Coach.
- Attend mandatory meetings and in-services.
- Report to work on time.
- Participate in the Open Doors campaign.
- Exemplify YMCA character values.
- Maintain positive relations at all times with members, participants, and co-workers.
- Assist in all areas of the Y operation as requested by management.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend and complete required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Have current CPR, First Aid, AED, & O2 Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
- Able to teach and communicate aquatics skills to participants.
- Able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to members, program participants, and guests.
- Able to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
- Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills.
- Able to complete New Staff Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogen, and Child Abuse training within the first 30 days of employment.
Requirements
- At least one year of related experience.
- Current USA Swimming Coaching Certification.
- Lifeguard Certification.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or equivalent experience.
Qualifications
- Ability to teach and communicate aquatics skills to participants.
- Excellent communication skills.
